July 13, 2017
The Cathy Coughlin STEM Scholarship Luncheon was held on Monday, July 10 at Northwestern University’s Rebecca Crown Center. The luncheon honored this year’s recipients of the Cathy Coughlin STEM Scholarship, established in honor of Cathy Coughlin (former TCN member and close personal friend of Northridge CEO, Therese Fauerbach). This program honors Cathy’s bright vision for STEM-educated young women, which persists following her passing two years ago. Nearly tripling the previous year’s number of Coughlin STEM Scholars, sixteen young women (ten new and six returning) received sponsorships in 2017. Monday’s luncheon allowed supporters and guests the opportunity to meet and connect with one another as well as the STEM Scholars.
The Cathy Coughlin STEM Scholarship seeks to sponsor 6th– 8th grade Chicago-area girls passionate about science, technology, engineering, and math. Partnering with Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development (CTD), this program provides recipients with year-round CTD opportunities, enabling each student to enroll in CTD’s Summer Program on the Northwestern campus and to continue her STEM education by participating in a credit-bearing accelerated or enrichment course during the school year. This equates to an investment of approximately $5000 per year for each student.
